Connecting & growing

Social Science expertise

A FREE online programme for Social Science PCTs to help you gain a greater understanding of the Social Sciences curriculum refresh, and have an opportunity to connect with other PCTs and subject experts in your curriculum learning area via the Networks of Expertise (NEX)

Course overview

Teacher Development Aotearoa (TDA) invites Provisionally Certified Teachers (PCTs) and experienced teachers who are new to teaching Social Studies to register for our FREE online curriculum support programme.
In partnership with PPTA, ASSEN, NZBoGT and NZHTA.

Purpose

The Connecting and growing Social Science expertise programme is designed to provide you with specialised curriculum support alongside other PCTs at a similar point in their teaching journey.  It will provide you with an opportunity to kōrero, share your experiences, and a forum for you to ask curriculum questions in a space designed specifically for PCTs.  Attendance at the programme can be documented as evidence towards your teaching registration also.

The course will focus on:

  • Unpacking the Understand/Know/Do model
  • Practical Social Science examples of how to weave UKD together
  • Support to co-construct lessons that embed literacy, numeracy, Mātauranga Māori and plenty of time to ask questions
  • Connect to three Social Science NEX leaders (ASSEN-Social Studies, NZBoGT- Geography, NZHTA- History) to access curriculum support and professional development from expert subject kaiako
